Banzai inflatable slides recalled after woman’s death
An inflatable water slide caused a 29-year-old woman’s death along with other people’s injuries. It has since been recalled. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled approximately 21,000 Banzai inflatable water slides after a thorough investigation into the slides’ defects.
The investigation revealed that the large water slide is not sturdy, and it can be overturned with a large gust of wind. The slide is also defective in the fact that it can deflate at any moment, causing anyone on the slide to fall to the ground. These slides are intended to be used for in-ground pools.
The death of the 29-year-old Colorado mother sparked the controversy over the product. The woman was traveling down the slide, head first, when it suddenly deflated, and she struck her head on the side of the pool. Her neck broke in the accident, and she became paralyzed. She passed away a day later.
The stores that sell these defective products, including Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., and Toys R Us, Inc., will offer full refunds to customers. The family of the water slide victim sued Toys R Us, Inc., and a jury awarded them $20.6 million.
