Dog Bites claims
According to a study conducted by the Insurance Information Institute, dog bite liability claims totaled $479 million in 2011.
This sum accounted for roughly one-third of all homeowner liability claims in 2011, possibly due to the rising cost of medical care and the amount awarded to the victim by a jury.
Another factor may include the popularity of vicious dog breeds in the United States. Laws have changed to label certain dog breeds as dangerous, and therefore, if someone is bitten by one of these dogs, they no longer have to prove that the animals are dangerous when filing for a liability payout. Instead, the danger is automatically assumed.
